Manuscript (Loose-leaf with binder)Language/Translation Info: EnglishSummary: "The invasion of the Philippines described from the level of 14th Army Headquarters. It covers Luzon landings and drive to the south, including capture of Manila, Bataan and Corregidor as well as subsequent mop-up. The landings on the other islands in the Philippine Group lightly covered. (Unedited translation, 243 pages)” Prepared by surviving 14th Army staff officers. (The 14th Army was Japan’s main invasion force assigned to invade and administer the Philippines; it was under the command of Lt. Gen. Masaharu Homma). Very technical; includes actual orders and reports. Maps, tables, intelligence estimates at the time, interspresed between chronological narratives. Focuses on the Battles of Bataan and Corregidor, with some mention of the invasion of the Visayas and Mindanao. Very important material, but requires patience to wade through. Not all the maps in the Japanese original were translated. Handwritten corrections and annotations. No mention of the treatment of POWs after the fall of Bataan and Corregidor. *Citations in quotation marks from: U.S. Army. Office of the Chief of Military History. "Guide to Japanese Monographs and Japanese Studies on Manchuria." Ca. early 1960s. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
