Manuscript (Loose-leaf with binder)Language/Translation Info: EnglishSummary: This monograph describes the operations of a Corps (composed of several army divisions) in defense, specifically in the Battle of Bataan in 1942. The II Corps was assigned to the east side of Bataan and was under the command of Maj. Gen. George M. Parker. It was responsible for the defense of Abucay and Pilar, among others. The author was a staff officer of the corps, in charge of transportation and maintenance, and his monograph deals with the problems and situation relating to this particular field. He gives the pre-war background of the Philippine defense plan, and argues that War Plan Orange – the decision to defend Bataan rather than the beaches – should have been ordered at the start of the war, rather than after the Japanese had landed. The resultant confusion caused much material losses. Also critical of front line officer leadership. NB Kary wrote a fuller book on his POW experience, "Guest of the Emperor." - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
