Enlarging on Allison Ind’s Allied Intelligence Bureau, Breuer writes about several episodes (many of which had been written about before) in the Philippines and Southeast Asia, among them the stories of Richard Sakakida, Capt. Bulkeley’s “kidnapping” of President Quezon from the Visayas to Mindanao, guerrillas in the Philippines, Dr. Emigdio Cruz, Joey Guerrero, the secret agent leper, Chick Parsons, Villamor and others. The book also includes raids and intelligence operations outside the Philippines but some still part of MacArthur’s command: Bougainville, Borneo, and Singapore, among others. Based largely on published sources, but also on a few interviews, but none with Filipinos. The reader should be vigilant as there are a number of errors in this book (“High Pockets” is identified as Claire Fuentes when she was in actuality Claire Philips). - Prof. Ricardo R. JoseSummary: Action-packed narrative, describing the secret work of the Allied Intelligence Bureau created by General MacArthur to organize the many far-flung resistance groups in the Pacific Islands. Includes first-hand interviews with veterans. - Roderick Hall List(s) this item appears in: Afterwar: World War II Film Festival and Exhibit
