This book describes a very sad time in Manila’s history. The author and his family were in the La Salle College area when they were advised by a Japanese friend to proceed to St. Scholastica’s College; they thus narrowly survived the massacre at La Salle. Garcia also tells the story of his wife’s family, and other friends and acquaintances, giving life to specific heroes and victims. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
